So Cal Takes Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
The So Cal Bruins faced a challenging opponent in Irvine Gang Green left-hander Masutaro Koyama, but did just enough to squeak out a 2-1 win in Game 1 of the Divisional Round today. So Cal now leads 1-0 in the best-of-7 series. The Bruins won despite the Gang Green getting an excellent start from starter Koyama, who allowed 2 earned runs at scattered 5 hits over 7.1 innings.
Rubén Calderón, who is a two-time All-Star, aided the So Cal cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth. For the game, the designated hitter went 2-4 with a double.
Calderón called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday, October 12th, 2028 at The Ballpark at Irvine. The scheduled starters for the game are Alejandro Méndez for the Bruins and Masutaro Koyama for the Gang Green.
