Pikes, Greene Pin Bad Loss on Tropics
|
The Seattle Pikes handed the Maui Tropics a sound defeat, 11-2, at Pikes' Point Stadium. Wallace Greene was a main contributor to the win. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 for Seattle. Mike Graves was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Seattle improves to 56-30 with the win. They lead their division by 3 games.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Seattle got a break when Greene went to the plate. With two outs, runners on 1st and 2nd and the Pikes leading 8-2, Greene hit a 3-run home run.
"We took it on the chin today," said losing manager Truman Bailey.
