Panthers Need Extras to Top Beavers
|
Fans who congregated at Beaver Dam were treated to extra-inning drama.
The Vista Panthers racked up a win at Beaver Dam, bumping off the Baffin Island Beavers, 4-2. Dale Reese, who started for Vista, pitched effectively for his team. David Simpson got credit for the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. Yajirobei Endo earned his 4th save in 8 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop António López came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Baffin Island pitcher Luis Féliz, he hit a 2-1 splitter for a 2-run double. It was a game-changer, putting Vista on top, 4-2.
"Our team showed some spunk," said López.
The second-place Panthers lifted their record to 51-32.
