Browns Nip Machine, 3-2
|
St. Louis beat Chicago at Gateway Stadium, eking out a 3-2 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Bob Cunningham, who earned player of the game honors. Cunningham went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 4-5. At 82-71, St. Louis is in third place in the Continental League Eastern Division.
Danny Walker brought the hometown crowd to its feet with one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when the former first round draft pick belted a 2-run home run. With the round-tripper, the Browns took the lead, 3-1.
Walker said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
