Canucks Prevail, 3-1, Over Long Island
|
Moose Jaw and Long Island duked it out and the Canucks came out victorious.
The Moose Jaw Canucks beat the Long Island Ducks, 3-1, at Foresters Stadium. Starting pitcher Andrew Wilkes-Krier was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Wilkes-Krier got the win, improving to 1-3. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Wilkes-Krier allowed no runs.
The Ducks had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Canucks going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old center fielder Hedde Wierenga came to the plate. Wierenga hit a 3-run home run on a 2-2 fastball from Long Island hurler Gilbert Morgan. It was Wierenga's 4th home run of the year.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Canucks manager Bobby Buck, "I like our chances."
The victory puts Moose Jaw at 10-15.
