Bompton beat Long Island at Field of the Browns, eking out a 2-1 win. The win was due in large part to designated hitter George Crawford. He threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The save went to Sampo Sarpaneva, number 4 for him. With the win, Bompton lifts its record to 6-3.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Baby Lakers sent teenager Titus Andromedon to the plate against Ducks hurler Joe Smith. With runners on 1st and 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 2-2 sinker to score 1.
"The old adage is true," said Crawford. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
