Thrilling Victory Pushes Centennial Win Streak to 5
|
The Fort Knox Centennial beat the Bethlehem Angel Kitties, 6-1, at Kittie Park. Starting pitcher Elmer Cullum was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Cullum, now 7-5, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Li-ping Cheng recorded the save for Fort Knox, his 7th of the season.
Fort Knox used the timely hitting of Jorge González to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Centennial on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It was our day today," González told the Fort Knox News. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
The first-place Centennial improved to 61-27.
