Mockingbirds Deal Shredders 5-2 Defeat

The Hollywood Bowl was the site for United States Silver League action featuring the Hollywood Shredders and Mississippi Mockingbirds.
The Mississippi Mockingbirds defeated the Hollywood Shredders, 5-2, in United States Silver League action at The Hollywood Bowl. Jorge Martínez pulled his weight. The 9-year veteran went 2-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Picking up the win was Noud Taaij. He went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 8 and walked 2. Jerry Collins finished to wrap up his 6th save.
Mississippi grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Martínez, who is tied for 4th in the SL in RBI with 20, hit a solo home run. His 7th home run of the season put the Mockingbirds out in front, 2-1.
"I thought we played a nice game," Martínez told the Mississippi Times. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The first-place Mockingbirds improved to 18-9.
