Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Elite
|
The Detroit Elite downed the Mississippi Mockingbirds, 8-6. The hitting star was right fielder Ron Pollard. Pollard was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Elite. The win was credited to Joaquín Herrera in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Alberto Ramos took the loss. Carroll Kelly, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
Detroit used the clutch hitting of Al Miller to capture the win. The catcher drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Elite the lead, 7-6. For the game, Miller had 1 single and 2 doubles in 4 at-bats.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Elite manager Dustin Hewitt. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The Elite saw their win-loss record go to 14-10. At the same time, the Mockingbirds fell to 15-9.
