The Hicksville Hounds got a good effort from starter Gilberto Cruz in defeating the Maine Sea Dogs at Hound Pound. The final score was 3-1. Cruz picked up the win for Hicksville, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 3-0. Mick Ditka sewed up the save, his 6th.
The Hounds got a big hit from third baseman Manuel Castillo. In the bottom of the fifth, Castillo pounded a 2-run home run to left. His 2nd home run of the season put the Hounds ahead, 3-0.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Cruz said.
The Sea Dogs, now 6-10, continue their poor start.
