Blue Dragons Fall Short, 3-2, at Columbia
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Columbia River Rats and the Levittown Blue Dragons, pitcher Nick Young was the difference between victory and defeat. The Columbia right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 River Rats win. Earning his 16th save of the year was Mike Nichols. Columbia, at 31-22, occupies second place in the Premier A.
Had Gary McGuire not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, McGuire hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the River Rats.
In comments to the Columbia Herald, McGuire insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
