Umberto Erkelens pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Caldwell Chiefs, despite Erkelens's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Washington Generals at Washington Park. Raph Liberato, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 hits and 1 run, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Alejandro Quintana, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 7th save.
Vince Taylor, who is tied for 8th in the PA in doubles with 9, helped out the Washington cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the second baseman drove in one run.
"What we get, we earn," Taylor told the Washington Daily.
Caldwell now has a 5-game losing streak.
