Valéncia Helps Yinzers Beat Caterpillars, 5-2
|
Yinzers third baseman Gonzalo Valéncia put his stamp on his team's 5-2 win over the Grand Forks Caterpillars. Valéncia went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for Monroeville in the contest. Roger Cain, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-0. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 3. Monroeville is now 41-37, while Grand Forks is 38-40.
Valéncia had a timely hit for Monroeville in the bottom of the sixth. With Grand Forks trailing 2-1, he turned a 1-1 fastball into a 2-run double. It was his 5th double of the season, making it 3-2, Monroeville.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Valéncia said after the game.
