Godfathers Suffer 4-2 Setback
|
Pontiac got a terrific performance from pitcher Garrett Curry, but it wasn't enough to beat the Holy City Herons. Holy City won the Mango Yard contest, 4-2. Curry threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Miguel Hernández nailed down his 18th save. With the victory, the Herons upped their record to 42-31.
The Herons used some clutch hitting to beat the Godfathers, a good example being the at-bat of Riley Funk in the bottom of the eighth. With two down, Funk gave his team the lead, 4-2, when he hit a 2-run single.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Pontiac skipper Allen Yohemas, "and it cost us."
