The Eugene Vandals beat the Myrtle Beach Seahawks, 3-2. Eugene pitcher and Freeport, Texas, native Dean Mangin led the way. The win was credited to Jeremy Harris in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Ricardo Moya took the loss. The Vandals, at 34-36, sit in 9th place in the Silver A.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for David Lakerveld, the 21-year old first baseman ? Lakerveld stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Eugene up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Eugene skipper José Cervantes. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
