Caterpillars Knock Off Myrtle Beach, 3-1

Myrtle Beach got a terrific performance from pitcher Vitale Piantini, but it wasn't enough to beat the Grand Forks Caterpillars. Grand Forks won the Seahwaks Stadium contest, 3-1. Piantini threw 8.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Ben Barrett snagged the win in relief. In 3.1 innings, the left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits. He's now 5-1 on the season. Mitch O'Sullivan earned the save, his 3rd, for the Caterpillars.
Also having an impact was left fielder Danny Webster, who stroked a double in the top of the first for Grand Forks. For the game, Webster went 1-4 with a double.
Afterward, Caterpillars manager Miguel Avilés was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The win makes Grand Forks 8-13.
