Tula Drop Commodores, 4-2, with Late Score
|
Put-In-Bay wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Bob Miller, falling to the Chicago Tula, 4-2. Miller threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Phil Chamings got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Román Martínez recorded his 6th save for Chicago.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Fred Watkins to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Tula ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Watkins told the Chicago Today.
Chicago is 20-9 and Put-In-Bay, with the loss, 12-17.
