Highlanders Get One-Run Win at Tacoma
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Asheville Highlanders and the Tacoma Fur Traders. Asheville won it, 2-1. Asheville starter Dale Burney was in command. Rob Sawyer, credited with the save, is now 24 for 27 in save opportunities. Their 43-54 record puts the Highlanders 7th in the Premier AA.
The Fur Traders had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Highlanders going into the top of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old first baseman Dave Austin came to the plate. Austin hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 changeup from Tacoma hurler Will Rogers. It was Austin's 5th home run of the year.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Tacoma manager Jeff Rutherford, "let me know."
