Merlet, Loons Too Much for Atoms
|
A good performance from shortstop Robin Merlet helped the Minnesota Loons defeat the Bethesda Atoms, 6-2. Merlet went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Loons. Minnesota pitcher Steve Stevens got the win, upping his record to 8-5. Bruce Hawkins got the loss. With the victory, the Loons upped their record to 61-33.
With Minnesota leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Merlet hit a changeup from Ramón Martínez for a grand slam home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Loons ahead, 6-0.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Merlet told the Minnesota Times.
