Screaming Eagles Prevail, 4-2, Over Asheville
|
The Asheville Highlanders went down to defeat to Lorenzo Castillo and his Mercer Island teammates. The final score was 4-2 in favor of the Screaming Eagles. Castillo got the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. Castillo allowed no runs. Mercer Island is in third place in the Premier AA with a record of 54-40.
The outcome might have been different for Mercer Island, had it not been for Cliff Stone, the 24-year old catcher . Stone stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Mercer Island up, 4-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Mercer Island manager Ricardo Vargas.
