Screaming Eagles Curb Pilgrims, 4-1

The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles got a strong performance from pitcher Sixto Espinosa, who stymied the Providence offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Field of Plenty. Espinosa picked up the win for Mercer Island, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 9-5. The Pilgrims, at 35-57, have lost 4 in a row.
Mercer Island first baseman Adam Bell said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with a runner on 1st in the top of the sixth. He did more than that -- Bell hit a 2-run home run to stake Mercer Island to a 3-1 lead. His 4th home run of the season came off Providence pitcher Donald Stevens.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Espinosa.
