The Asheville Highlanders had to overcome a fine effort from Northville pitcher B.J. McLean to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Old-Timers Park. McLean went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Juan Ramírez picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-7. He struck out 5 in 7.1 innings. Rob Sawyer recorded the save, his 21st.

Runs were few and far between in this one. So, Paul Young's at-bat with one out in the top of the eighth was crucial. The Asheville right fielder hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 3-2 lead.

"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Young.

The Highlanders improved to 39-50.
