Highlanders Get Stopped by Krewe, 5-2
|
The Crescent City Krewe defeated the Asheville Highlanders, 5-2, at Field of the Krewe. Crescent City first baseman Jesse Wirth had a superb performance. He was 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Manuel Juárez was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Vincent Sturm converted his 16th save in 17 tries.
Wirth contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing triple, for Crescent City in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-0, Wirth took a fastball from Juan Ramírez and stroked the triple to right. His 2nd triple of the season allowed the Krewe to leap in front, 3-2.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Wirth told the Crescent City Gazette.
The Krewe saw their record improve to 40-45.
