The Mancelona Torch overcame a fine performance by Chicago catcher Reginald Hunter to defeat the Tula, 5-4, at Ramblers Ballpark. Hunter went 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Mancelona pitcher Eugene Blake got the win, upping his record to 1-2. Román Martínez got the loss. Losses have been rare for the Tula, who are now 14-5.
Max Pegrum was 1-4 for Mancelona. The 22-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Román Martínez. It was his 3rd RBI of the season.
"Nice win," said Pegrum. "Not sure what else you want me to say."
