Fur Traders Come Up Short at Asheville, 7-6
|
The Asheville Highlanders turned back the Tacoma Fur Traders, 7-6, at Asheville Park. Homer Harrington, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The winner in relief was Vincente Hernández. He is now 2-1. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The Highlanders have now won 4 straight.
Had Paul Young not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Young hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Highlanders.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Harrington, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
