Asheville beat Crescent City on the strength of starter Barry Newman's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-2. Newman got the win, improving to 5-3. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Newman allowed 2 runs. The 8th-place Highlanders now have a win-loss record of 21-30.
Having an impact for Asheville was Su-shun Hung. In the bottom of the third inning, the 26-year old designated hitter had a run-scoring hit-by-pitch to make the score 2-0, Highlanders.
"This was a tough loss," said Crescent City manager Cleveland Kraut. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
