Asheville starter Barry Newman put a stranglehold on the Minnesota offense. The right-hander had complete command of his slider in leading the Highlanders to a 5-0 win. Minnesota drops to 7-6.

Newman, the Asheville right-hander, went 7.1 innings, allowing no runs on 3 hits. He collected 4 strikeouts.
