Gulf Coast got a terrific performance from pitcher Ron Cox, but it wasn't enough to beat the Squirrel Hill Pierogis. Squirrel Hill won the Field of the Rawhides contest, 3-2. Cox threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The win belongs to Eugene Ingram in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Jason Taylor took the loss for Gulf Coast. The Pierogis saw their win-loss record go to 42-50. At the same time, the Turbeaus fell to 43-49.
With the game on the line, Kelsey Tate came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. And the Squirrel Hill right fielder came through, cracking a run-scoring single off Jason Taylor, the Gulf Coast pitcher.
"That's how to finish a ballgame," said Tate.
