The home crowd had a good time watching the Squirrel Hill Pierogis and Yakima Hops get after it.
The Yakima Hops beat the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 11-3. Yakima left fielder and Chinandega, Nicaragua, native Juan Gutiérrez led the way. The winning pitcher was John Woods. His record is now 7-2. The right-hander went 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits for the Hops.
Early in the game, Gutiérrez had a 2-run home run for Yakima. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Hops on top, 2-0.
"I like to lead by example," said Gutiérrez. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
The first-place Hops sport a record of 40-29.
