The Squirrel Hill Pierogis and Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks beat the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 6-4, at Field of the Rawhides. The Thunder Hawks got a fine performance from right fielder Daniel Major, who was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Kel Ellis, the winner, goes to 4-2. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 4 walks and 8 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. Jorge Salas locked down his 11th save.
Ft. Polk South took a 6-3 lead on Major's 9th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Edgar Bartolini in the top of the eighth, propelled Ft. Polk South to the win.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Ft. Polk South manager Mike Evans.
Ft. Polk South has a record of 27-23, placing them third in the Silver AA.
