The Billings Polar Bears got a superb performance from pitcher Jerry Bishop. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Yakima. The Hops won the game, 6-5. Bishop threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. Yakima reliever Ray Brown got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Nick Price was tagged with the loss. The second-place Hops have a record of 18-7.

Yakima used the timely hitting of Ramón Domínguez to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hops on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Yakima manager Gerald Clark.
