In a low-scoring game between Yakima and Squirrel Hill, pitcher Elliott Boyd was excellent. The Yakima left-hander helped his team knock off the Pierogis, 3-1. Rob Dougherty earned the save for Yakima, his 3rd. The defeat makes Squirrel Hill 2-9.
With runs few and far between, the Hops had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Yakima came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when catcher Lou Orr delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Eduardo Rocha and made the score 2-1, Hops. Orr went 1-2 with a walk.
"Elliott just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Yakima manager Gerald Clark.
