The St. Petersburg Thunder picked up a win at Field of the Rawhides, knocking off the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 5-2. Starting pitcher Alfonso Escamilla played a key role in the triumph. St. Petersburg pitcher Jorge García got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Edgar Bartolini got the loss. Ed Wheeler nailed down his 4th save.

St. Petersburg used the timely hitting of Manuel Licalde to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Thunder on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I had pretty good command out there," said Escamilla.

St. Petersburg has a record of 4-2.
