Rails Need Extra Frames to Get Past Whales
Behind a solid performance from right fielder Matt Russell, the Richland Rails defeated the Virginia Beach Whales, 9-8. Russell hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 4 for the Rails. Richland is now 45-37.

Richland used a timely hit from Gerard Hurd to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Rails ahead, 9-8. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We'll savor this win," Hurd told the Richland Gazette, "then get ready for the next game."
