7 Straight Wins for Whales

The Virginia Beach Whales faced a tough opponent in Arizona pitcher Rod Mayfield, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Javelina Ballpark by a final score of 8-3. Mayfield went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. The winner was Virginia Beach reliever Matt Price, now 5-2. The loser was Allen Warm. The wins continue to add up for Virginia Beach, with the latest making it 7 in a row.
Virginia Beach used a timely hit from Darren Overton to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whales ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Overton said. "We did a good job of that today."
