Guinea Pigs Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Blues, 4-3
|
Barton Springs got a terrific performance from pitcher Tom Butler, but it wasn't enough to beat the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs. Gwinnett won the Blues Field contest, 4-3. Butler threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Brody Avery, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-3. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 1. Gwinnett has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
Gwinnett used a timely hit from Dan Love to get the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
In postgame comments to the Gwinnett Chronicle, Love said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
