Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Marlins
|
The Ft. Myers Marlins overcame a fine performance by Kansas right fielder Gustavo Gonzáles to defeat the Rainbeaus, 5-3, at League Park. Gonzáles was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs. Ft. Myers reliever Pie-qi Huang picked up the win, upping his record to 5-2. Alfredo Ramos shouldered the loss. Shaun Marchant finished to wrap up his 2nd save.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Keith Thomas was at the plate when Ft. Myers scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Marlins to go in front, 5-3.
When asked about his performance after the game, Thomas said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
Ft. Myers's record now stands at 35-34, placing them 4th in the Silver AAA.
