Port Huron left-hander Mike Thornton pitched his team to victory over the Tortolita Drummers at Port Huron Park. The final score was 4-3. Thornton went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 10 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 4-0. Gil Childers finished to wrap up his 7th save.
Had Sergio Rivera not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Rivera hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Blitzkrieg.
Tortolita manager Marcos Costa said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The win puts Port Huron at 8-7.
