Pride Prevail, 5-3, Over Baton Rouge
|
The Hartford Pride topped the Baton Rouge Brass, 5-3, in USPL Triple A action at Brass Field. The standout performance belonged to Hartford pitcher and Princess Quarter, Sint Maarten, native Wessel de Best. The winning pitcher was de Best, now 11-3. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. Dan Smith recorded his 9th save for Hartford.
Hartford used a well-timed hit by Elvin Cook to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Pride ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," de Best told the Hartford Citizen.
Hartford has 3 straight wins, Baton Rouge 3 straight losses.
