Fighting Dachshunds Stay Hot, Beat Squirrel Monkeys, 4-3
|
Syracuse got a decent performance from pitcher Bernard Miller, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ellenburg Fighting Dachshunds. Ellenburg won the The Zoo in Syracuse contest, 4-3. Miller threw 7.2 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Mike Allen notched his 8th save in 10 chances. This win makes it 5 in a row for Ellenburg.
The Squirrel Monkeys had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Fighting Dachshunds going into the top of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old first baseman Steven Williams came to the plate. Williams hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 slider from Syracuse hurler Bernard Miller. It was Williams's 2nd home run of the year.
"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said Williams.
