The Santa Barbara Golden Cranes got a superb performance from pitcher Al Leonard, but the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys still won the game, 6-3. Leonard threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner in relief was Colton Phillips. He is now 3-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Ronald Love closed it out for his 6th save.
Syracuse took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Shoraku Ito hit a clutch grand slam home run to bring Squirrel Monkeys fans to their feet.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Ito.
Syracuse has now won 5 games in a row.
