Thunderbirds Take Down Golden Cranes, 3-2
|
The Hamilton Thunderbirds topped the Santa Barbara Golden Cranes by a score of 3-2. Leading the way was left fielder Victor Porter. Porter went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Thunderbirds. The winner was Hamilton reliever Gregory Gilbert, now 2-1. The loser was Cisco Morales. The Thunderbirds, now 14-3, have had a terrific start to the season.
The outcome might have been different for Hamilton, had it not been for Lou Werner, the 24-year old shortstop . Werner stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 15th inning to put Hamilton up, 3-2. For the game, he was 4 for 7, including 1 double and 3 singles.
"That's baseball," said Santa Barbara manager Júlio González. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
