Battery Squelch Stingers Offense in Shutout Win
|
Charleston got a strong outing from Noboru Kokawa as the Battery defeated the Toledo Stingers, 4-0, at Pacesetter Park. In 7 innings, Kokawa surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. The Stingers, now 7-14, continue their slow start.
Charleston relied on the hitting of Artie Walden to pick up the win. The catcher ripped a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Battery on top, 3-0. For the game, Walden had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Walden told the Charleston Citizen. "You win just by scoring more runs."
