Ponies, Chávez Pin Bad Loss on Battery

The Kingston Ponies had no problem beating the Charleston Battery, 11-2, at Charleston Armory. Carlos Chávez led the way. He went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for Kingston. Seung Kim, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Charleston to 1 run on 3 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. With the win, Kingston climbs to 3-6.
With Kingston leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Chávez hit a run-scoring single off Charleston hurler Wesley Perkins. It was the 12th hit of the season for Chávez and put his team ahead, 2-0.
Charleston manager Matt Hunt called the blowout loss "a real dud."
