Battery Beat Kingston, 5-4
|
The Charleston Battery dealt the Kingston Ponies a 5-4 loss at Charleston Armory. Eric Bowman was the star on offense. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Charleston reliever José Pérez, now 1-0. The loser was Dick Hill. Charleston has a record of 3-5.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Horace Ellis came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kingston pitcher Dick Hill, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Charleston on top, 5-4.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Bowman.
