9 Straight Wins for Harbor Whales
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Greenport Harbor Whales and the Bompton Baby Lakers. Greenport won it, 3-1. Greenport starter Tony Pilcher was in command. Anastasio Orozco closed it out for his 20th save. Greenport has a 9-game win streak, while Bompton has lost 4 in a row.
The Baby Lakers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Harbor Whales going into the top of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old third baseman Will Morrison came to the plate. Morrison hit a 2-run home run on a full count fastball from Bompton hurler Dan Harris. It was Morrison's 9th home run of the year.
Afterward, Harbor Whales manager Dave Lee was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
