Starting pitcher Ricardo Guerra pitched well enough to help the Ballard Beavers beat the Beaumont Crossbeaus, 5-3. Ballard reliever Bertrand Kerwin got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Felipe Cervantes was tagged with the loss. Ballard has now won 3 in a row.
Ballard used the clutch hitting of Iván Vargas to capture the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Beavers ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.
