Cajuns Edge Ogallala in Pitching Duel
|
The Crowley Cajuns beat the Ogallala Octopi, 1-0. Crowley pitcher and New Orleans, Louisiana, native Bruce Willing led the way. Willing, now 6-9, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Kevin Evans nailed down his 18th save.
Crowley used a clutch hit from Maru Kobayashi to get the win. The left fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cajuns ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Crowley skipper Neal Davis. "I can't complain."
The 8th-place Cajuns lifted their record to 33-45.
