Chiefs Win Thriller, 4-3
|
The Caldwell Chiefs had to overcome a fine effort from Grim pitcher Wijnand Boone to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Pipers Ballpark. Boone went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Caldwell reliever Jon Ford picked up the win, raising his record to 3-2. Gustavo Villa was tagged with the loss. The win makes Caldwell 44-48.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Caldwell trailing 3-1, Bhu Layco hit a fastball from Gustavo Villa to right-center for a bases-clearing double. Just like that, the Chiefs had a walk-off win.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Layco told the Caldwell Bulletin. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
