Walla Walla Defeated by Lake Erie, 3-2
|
Fans of the Lake Erie Arryns who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Lake Erie win over the visiting Walla Walla Walleye, 3-2. David Jordan started for the home team against Steve Stevens. Steve Stevens earned accolades for his performance. Lake Erie reliever Gareth Mansvelt got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Dylan Snider was tagged with the loss. Earning his 1st save for Lake Erie was John Terry.
José Villa was 1 for 3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI for Lake Erie. The 22-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Dylan Snider. It was his 1st walk of the season.
Afterward, Arryns manager Louis Espinosa was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
